Don't want to burst your bubble or crticize you, but I think that you need to can Win98 and upgrade your O/S to either w2K or XP. Win98 is totally insecure. From an intrusion and weakness standpoint I love to play with people who have 98. From a forensic standpoint I love it to. It's Soooooo easy. Anything you listed as far as a personal fw is fine. I haven't tested the others but Zone Alarm and other products basically do the same thing. Might I suggest that you install the personal fw on a separate box and then put your other machine behind it? It adds an extra layer of security. You don't need something great, just an old crappy pc with a large enough drive to hold your O/S, your fw and the logs. And old 1.2GB drive is cool with a slower CPU since you don't really have to worry about network traffic and speed issues since it is a passthru for you anyway. Oh, and put a good SECURED O/S on that box too. Def NOT Win98. I need a personal firewall for it. I am looking at Zone Alarm, Sygate and Tiny Personal Firewall as my options. My intention is not only to protect my systems, but also to learn something about logs and analysing them. In light of this, which do you think would be ideal? No, I don't have a *nix system and don't intend to use it now. ---------- Regards Sridhar J ---------- "What you do in this world is a matter of no consequence; The question is, what can you make people believe that you have done." --Sherlock Holmes in "A Study in Scarlet" ********************************************************************** This message is a PRIVILEGED AND CONFIDENTIAL communication, and is intended only for the individual(s) named herein or others specifically authorized to receive the communication.
