Hi Gareth,

I have had a lot of customers with this same problems and most the time its due to norton internet security being
installed on most the new machines. Have a look at the following link for a solution.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/f4ae7ffd10c663ec852569d200713229/a3e4c1274f2b55bc88256ad500586ee1?OpenDocument

Cannot access or log on to secure Web sites with NIS or NPF

Situation:
You either cannot access or cannot log on to a secure Web site while Norton Internet Security (NIS) or Norton Personal
Firewall (NPF) are enabled.

Subject: internet explorer 6 cant view https secure web sites

Hi there was wondering if anybody had any input on the
following.

I work for an ISP, recently we have seen some
customers unable to view secure websites, not a
localised website issue all https sites.

Customers are using IE6, no proxy servers involved no
personal firewalls and no virus protection, ran a
check for spy and addware turned up nothing.

Checked all the usual stuff purged cookies and history
folder, set security and privacy levels. Allowed
Session Cookies, allowed First-Party Cookies.

Tried blocking then unblocking third party cookies.
Enabled and disabled ssl 2.0 and ssl 3.0. Checked the
cipher strength in all cases was set to 128bit. Not
localised to one OS.

In all case the end result is we've gotten customers
to download opera and there has been no problem.
Anybody have any ideas would be extremely grateful.

Probably something really stupid that we've missed.

Thanks in advance
