It's not the type of connection that makes a network more or less
secure, it's the services that are run on that network.

802.11b is the exception to this rule.

Fair enough.

However, one thing to bear in mind is that the cable modem networks have one
issue that DSL networks do not.  Overall, it is simply an added
vulnerability, but I generally assume that this sort of vulnerability may
exist on some portion of the internet anyway on any given connection....

Basically, a cable modem is a bus network, so every frame which is sent to
your computer is also sent down the bus and everybody in the neighborhood
*could* evesdrop with relative ease.  This means that one should be even
more careful with plain-text passwords than normal.
