Thanks Mike,
Can you please share what you use SMAC for?
I hope SMAC (www.klcconsulting.net/smac) will resolve many issues, and let
security and network administrators benefit from it.
One benefit: SMAC resolve small/medium size company with setting up a
stand-by servers ("semi" high-availability) for firewall, database servers,
email and application servers because now they can setup 2 "identical
systems" with same computer name, IP and MAC addresses! When the primary
server goes down, just unplug primary server from the net and plugin the
stand-by server, user will not get extended down-time because MAC address
stays the same and there is no confusion on the arp-table.
Obvious they will have to find a mean to replicate the primary and stand-by
systems. The user can put a router between the 2 systems due to the same
MAC addresses on 2 systems, but they can simply do this by putting a router
that support NAT with port mapping (even a cheap Linksys DSL router will
do), which will allow these 2 systems to replicate without problems. Real
cheap solution for real stand-by systems.
Of course there are many other applications and benefits you can see from
the SMAC website.
Thanks,
/Kyle

God bless you for this. This was perfect timing on a particular issue I'm
having.
