Hi Tim, Just a note of caution on RH8 running KDE (a desktop environment), it is very gui intensive. It is designed to capture a lot of the desktop market, but running it on slow boxes will mean slow response times and unhappy people. I use redhat (started many versions ago) mostly in networking environment, but find rh7.3 to bridge the gap for windows people, with resonable response times. Open source is a great place, buying a version for docs is good when jumping in. The distros are available from mirror sites (linked to rh) or directly from red hat just my opinion, Good Luck ! Many thanks to all who replied on this question. looks like Red Hat has it for a newbie. Where's a good place to get 8.0 server & desktop versions. I see them available at redhat.com, but can it be downloaded/obtained cheaper elsewhere? I'd probably buy at least the 8.0 manuals from Redhat unless someone has a better suggestion for learning material TIA again Tim
