In-Reply-To: <Law10-OE36VuMhvqgSt000001fe () hotmail com> I think someone else mentioned this in their post as well. Some of these firewalls (zone alarm excluded) for windows have a tendency to 'alter' (?) winsock. And your TCP/IP settings. You may want to erase your tcp/ip settings in network configuration and just reinstall them. This may be fixed another way but a similar problem happened to me before and I did that to fix it. Another problem (sorta related) is when you install AOL 8 on an XP box. Ive found out renders your tcp/ip settings useless after uninstalling AOL, and I had to reinstall them all over. Use zone alarm for a personal firewall its a much better personal windows firewall in my honest opinion. -- Chris http://elusive.filetap.com

hi all .. i am using WIN XP and plan to install RHL 9.0 on the same machine. I have downloaded few tools to study them namely nmapwin , 3dtraceroute etc but none of their queries them seem to go beyond the boundaries of my machine. There is a sygate software firewall on my PC even ping does't seem to work. the four queries are timed-out. Does anybody know the solution to this. I have even tried uninstalling the firewall. Why is the ping, traceroute, nampwin doesnt work Thankxx in advance ossy --------------------------------------------------------------------------
