Jimmy,

We're using TrendMicro's Interscan with sendmail on a couple of
Solaris boxes as gateway servers. Works pretty well for us. We
certainly haven't noticed anything for which a virus def works getting
through our sendmail servers. Our firewall is configured to only allow
incoming STMP to our gateways, so all mail has to pass through them
before being sent on to the internal destination. The setup isn't too
difficult, assuming you've got a decent understanding of sendmail. I'm
pretty sure that Symantec (Norton) has a similar product that also
interacts with sendmail.

Our internal mail servers are a real mix - Lotus Notes, other
[U|Li]n[i|u]x servers, Exchange, and some odder sorts, none of which
seem too bothered by the whole deal.

I am looking for anyones experiences and recomendations using a POP/SMTP
proxy configuration for email and using it to filter/virus check incoming
and outgoing
email.

Currently we are an MS shop and trying to address a couple of issues.
Firstly we
have outsourced our email services through our Internet provider however
they
block SMTP access if you do not connect through the company Internet
connection
(ie remote dialups). Secondly we would like to try and stop email viruses
etc
before reaching the workstation.

Thank you,
-Jimmy
