Murad I am in a similar position to yourself as my bread and butter has been network support / admin. I did the comptia security+ at the beginning of the year and found it very interesting. However, what I would say about it is that it is very general and since doing the study I have forgotten most of it as I am still in my old role. Having looked around at the job markets I see a lot of security roles that are looking for linux, specific firewall qualifications like checkpoints ccsa, and routing qualifications like ciscos ccna. Also programming skills seem to be an additional requirement. I guess it all depends on what area of security you want to go into. Also, have you thought about doing the mcse + security path. If you do the comptia security+ then microsoft will count this as one of the electives. I'm being allocated some of the company's mandatory training budget and wanted people's experience/views on the differences of the two courses that I'm sourcing: CompTIA Security+(in class) SANS Security essentials bootcamp(online) Has anyone done both(unlikely, methinks) and which one would be (slightly) more Windows-centric? Also, which one would be more suited to a network admin who wants to head more in the security direction.
