It always comes down to $$$... 'Geographically independent' from my experience refers to offsite data being stored at least across state lines, e.g. Iron Mountain in Chicago, to some secure offsite company. This is what I would lean towards as a recommended solution. But again, cost is the determining factor. On a personal note.. A buddy of mine just finished a DR backup/recovery contract post-Hurricane Katrina for a company based in the New Orleans area. Unfortunately, their backup sites were local sites. Low cost savings, but they ended up paying for it after the hurricane. Hope that helps. Good luck. On 3/8/06, WereTiger <weretiger () weretiger ca> wrote:
In looking over the policies of a contract I've been put on, the critical stress has been put on data security and retention. They currently use offsite storage by swapping tapes between their two buildings which are only 15km (9 miles) apart. Is that enough? How is that any safer than a good fireproof vault? -WereTiger --------------------------------------------------------------------------- EARN A MASTER OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATION ASSURANCE - ONLINE The Norwich University program offers unparalleled Infosec management education and the case study affords you unmatched consulting experience.
