I also started out as a network admin and migrated to security. I initially started by taking the security+ cert and then going to the CISSP. I thought the Sec+ was a good stepping stone to the CISSP as a lot of the material is the same. For the Sec+ I used this book (http://www.amazon.com/Security%2B-Prep-Guide-Ronald-Krutz/dp/0764525999 /sr=8-10/qid=1163183264/ref=pd_bbs_sr_10/002-6302805-4220009?ie=UTF8&s=b ooks). It was a really good resource. For the CISSP, I used the Shon Harris book and also the website (www.cccure.org) was very helpful. That website has a lot of practice questions for the CISSP exam. You should also consider the SANS GIAC certifications. I have a couple of those as well and found them to be excellent.....very technically oriented.........unlike the CISSP. Anyway, hope that helps. -----Original Message----- From: listbounce () securityfocus com [mailto:listbounce () securityfocus com] On Behalf Of pmcmonagle () realtime-it com Sent: Thursday, November 09, 2006 11:20 AM To: security-basics () securityfocus com Subject: Security Exam Preparations Greetings list, I have been working with computers for 10 years now, 5 of which as a network administrator. I am currently only A+ certified. I would like to pursue the security route of certification. I would like to start with the Security+ and move up to a CISSP. I would like to know any good resources or reference books/courses that would help me in this endeavor. I have worked with Linux for 10+ years and Microsoft for 5. Thank you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- This list is sponsored by: Norwich University EARN A MASTER OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATION ASSURANCE - ONLINE The NSA has designated Norwich University a center of Academic Excellence in Information Security.
