There are drives such as the SmartDrive thumb drive with U3 technology. They have onboard encryption that does not require encryption be installed but be aware that when you plug in the device, you have to install it onto the computer so if you do not have those rights, all bets are off.
I had problem once with that kind of solution. It did not work with Windows XP SP2. It's better not to use closed technology and software to do encryption. There might be some errors and backdoors in implementation.
