Due to a facebook "breach of ethics" violation at work I don't think I
will be getting this cert due to the code of ethics associated with the
CISSP.

I'm middle aged and have reservations about going back for a 4 year
degree. Most postings for security analysts want a CISSP or a degree. I
have 4 years solid experience, but that doesn't count for much these
days.

What suggestions can anyone give me for other certs that will help get a
better job? The MCSE security cert? CCNP security? Security+ ? Are any of
these going to get me anywhere further in my career? I don't have the cash
for the SANS as I live outside the US.

Without fully knowing what you mean by this
“Due to a facebook "breach of ethics" violation at work" It is hard to
say if you will be declined the CISSP certification. I would call ISC2 and
talk to them and not rely on internet users to help answer that question.

As far as the other part of your question yes the CISSP is good to get you
in the door but there are many other certs that will help in your career
as well it all depends what you are looking to do in the security field.
Every vendor out there has some cert or another. Find the niche you want
to focus on then focus on certs in that area. Remember the CISSP cert is a
general cert something that your years of schooling and some work
experience should show that you have the same knowledge.
