        You can try using vlans, one of them for you accounting computers and the 
other for the educational side. Between them try to install a firewall, in 
order to stop comunication between educational/accounting computers, but 
allowing them to access the domain server machine.

        And I believe you about the W2000 shutdown: Try with linux. It is not so 
hard to install samba and you are going to have a robust, and cheap, solution.
