I would also add that ISC2 offers an associate option that will roll into a full CISSP, CSSLP, SSCP or CAP once the
required working experience is obtained.

Good write up SJ. I would add that while sec + isn't a difficult exam it is meant to be entry level for people with
about 6 months if experience in infosec. I have taken their CASP exam and thought that was a lot more challenging.
There are actual scenarios that you have to think through. It's not well known though.

Dolan,

CompTIA Security+ is a good and well-known entry-level certification
for people who has interest working in Information Security roles. If
you already in the InfoSec industry, I believe people know (or at
least have heard) about Security+

As security consist of broad ranges, you might also want to complement
yourself with specialized security fields certification either from
vendor driven certification such as:
(examples below are not mean to be exhausted):
  Cisco: CCNA/CCNP Security
  Microsoft: MCSA/MCSE Security
  RedHat: RHCSS
  CheckPoint: CCSA/CCSE

Or from a vendor-neutral specialized certifications such as ISC2, GIAC
or EC-Council. (a lot of options available starting from Security
Administration, Management, Legal, Audit, Software Security and
Forensic)
  ISC2: CISSP, SSCP, CSSLP,etc
GIAC: GSEC, GCIH, GCIA, GPEN, etc
EC-Council: CEH, CHFI, ECSA, LPT, etc
  ISACA: CISA, CISM, etc

Just go to their website to explore further:

Major vendor driven:
 Cisco: http://cisco.com/go/certifications
 Microsoft:
http://microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-overview.aspx
 RedHat: http://redhat.com/training/certifications/rhcss/
 CheckPoint:
http://checkpoint.com/services/education/certification/index.html

Vendors-neutral (beside CompTIA):
  ISC2: http://isc2.org/cissp/default.aspx
  GIAC: http://giac.org
  EC-Council: http://eccouncil.org
  ISACA: isaca.org/CERTIFICATION/

What are people's opinions on the CompTIA qualifications?

Specifically, the Security+

.aspx

I basically want to know if they are as worldwide recognised as they say they are, and will a Security+
qualification look good to a potential employer. Or will they never had heard of it?

Thanks guys
