The police use timing to help detect, if you know when the mac address
is connecting and you know when people are connecting you can (in
theory) match them up.

If that's going to take too long you could use ARP spoofing (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARP_spoofing and
http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1057 (linux) or
http://www.chmag.in/article/feb2012/cain-and-abel-black-art-arp-poisoning (windows)
) to knock off the user and see who complains, that however could very
well have legal issues attached (see a good lawyer before that).

Or if you've an Android device and fancy a walk you could try this

However be aware MAC addresses can be spoofed.

Hi

Anybody knows about hardware/software used for locating a wifi client?
Somebody is downloading torrents at full speed on our network and nobody
will admit it (or simply stop), and we really don't want to restrict
network usage since there are many legal stuff on torrent sites too so
is there a way of finding a client with a specific mac address?

What will I need?
