   Apparently a BARRnet account was compromised, and someone sniffed packets to
    grab passwords.
   
   I've seen the discussions in the comp.security.misc newsgroup. I haven't see

   anything from CERT yet.  Does anyone have further details ?

Not about BARRnet, but NEARnet subscribers got a letter
a couple of weeks ago telling us they had been compromised.
They did not give details about how the crackers got through.
