Well, of course, after gaining shell I had to run this week's crop
of linux kernel exploits and find which ones worked.

Now THAT gets even more grey.  You tell a vendor of a US $50K
(they're more than $20k) box that they have a vunlerable
kernel and their first response is "nobody could get into
the box to exploit that".
