SyScan'11 Call For Papers

SyScan'11 CFP is out. please check out the speakers' privileges and
honorarium.

ABOUT SYSCAN'11
In the year 2011, SyScan round of conferences will kick off in the
city-state of Singapore. This will be followed by SyScan in China and
lastly in Taiwan. The tentative dates for China and Taiwan are as follows:

SyScan'11 China
Date: 21 - 22 July 2011

SyScan'11 Taiwan
Date: 17 - 18 November 2011
ABOUT SYSCAN'11 SINGAPORE

This will be the 7th SyScan conference in Singapore and there will be 3
major differences to the past conferences. Besides a new avenue, we will
provide for more opportunities for the attendees to interact with the
speakers during the conference. This will be in the form of a dinner
party for all attendees and speakers on the first night of the
conference. Lastly we will be including the researchers of COSEINC into
the CFP committee to solicit their votes on all papers submitted. This
last change will ensure that SyScan will continue to select the best
speakers and/or papers for the conference.

The dates for SyScan'11 Singapore will be 28 - 29 April 2011.

The topics and areas of interest for SyScan'11 Singapore will be as follow:

 1.  Offensive Technologies
The areas of interest for this topic are:
    *   Exploitation techniques and bypassing-mechanisms
    *   Malware
    *   Rootkits

 2.  Defensive Technologies
The areas of interest for this topic are:
    *   Operating System level protection
    *   Application level protection
    *   Network level protection

 3.  Bug Finding
The areas of interest for this topic are:
    *   Fuzzing and Static Analysis
    *   Source code auditing
    *   Other Methodologies

 4.  Cloud Computing and Virtualization

 5.  Client-Side Security
The areas of interest for this topic are:
    *   Browsers
    *   Microsoft Office/OpenOffice/GoogleDocs

 6.  Devices and/or Hardware Hacking
The areas of interest for this topic are:
    *   Mobile devices (phones, readers etc)
    *   Embedded Devices

The areas of interest for this topic are:
    *   Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system (SCADA)
    *   Telecommunication Networks
    *   Transportation Control and Management Networks
    *   Emergency Services

 10.  Data Recovery, Forensics and Incidence Response

 11.  Any topics that will catch the attention of the CFP committee
and/or the world.

SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Selection Committee for SyScan'11 comprises of the following personnel:

 1.  Thomas Lim - Organiser of SyScan and CEO of COSEINC
 2.  Dave Aitel - Founder and CEO of Immunitysec
 3.  Matthew "Shok" Conover - Symantec
 4.  Researchers of COSEINC

The Selection Committee will review all submissions and determine the
final list of speakers for SyScan'11.

SELECTION PROCESS
There will be 2 rounds of selection process. In the first round, all
submissions will be sorted out according to their topics and each paper
will be ranked within its topic. The top 3 papers of each topic will be
selected for the final selection list, and from the final selection
list, 12 papers/speakers will be chosen to present at SyScan.

The results for both rounds of selection will be published.

The criteria, with equal weightage, for the first round of selection are
as follows:

 1.  Newness of presentation material (have you presented this material
at other conferences before?)
 2.  Quality of presentation material
 3.  Impact of presentation material
 4.  Availability of Demo

Members of the Selection Committee will award between 1 and 5 points for
each of the last 3 criteria for each paper submitted. All brand new
presentations will be awarded 5 points for the "Newness" criterion and 1
point for presentations that have been presented at other conferences
before. The papers will then be ranked according to its aggregate points
within its categories. The top 3 ranking papers of each category will be
included in the final selection list.

In the second round, members of the Selection Committee will each be
given 2 votes to vote for their favorite presentations. The 12
presentations that received the highest number of votes will present at
SyScan'11 Singapore.

SPEAKERS' PRIVILEGES
Speakers of SyScan'11 Singapore will be entitled to the following
privileges:

 *   Reimbursement of air-ticket for one person up to a maximum amount
of SGD1000.
 *   3 nights of accommodation.
 *   Breakfast, lunch and dinner during conference.
 *   After-conference party.
 *   A very healthy dose of alcohol and fun.
SPEAKERS' HONORARIUM

 *   All selected speakers with brand new presentation will be honored
with SGD500 (Not applicable to COSEINC researchers).
 *   All selected speakers who submit their presentation material by 11
April 2011 will be honored with SGD250.
 *   All selected speakers who submit a detailed Technical White Paper
of their selected presentation by 18 April 2011 will be honored with SGD250.

Please note that all speakers will be allocated 60 minutes of
presentation time. Any speakers that require more time must inform the
CFP committee during the CFP submission.

All speakers selected to present at SyScan'11 Singapore will be required
to submit a full technical paper of their presentation.
