2) Our fixation on perfect security is actually based on a misunderstanding of how societies work and can flourish. Keep in mind that in many areas, the physical world is probably much better off specifically because we're quite willing to rely on trust and casual, imperfect deterrence, and no on perfect security. I actually fancy that thought, if you recall ;-)
This reminded me about a bit that came up in a recent discussion on security data sharing: why banks would share that a branch was robbed, but not that a bank was hacked? Parallel to this, when a bank branch gets robbed, few people say "OMG, they had such bad physical security", while if they get hacked, everybody says that... What is so special about physical world?
