All,

This project tracks usage of Windows OS machines, targeted in
particular at publicly available lab/library/classroom machines at a
University.

The goal is to provide not only usage information for the staff
to use during resource allocation and analysis, but more importantly to
allow the students to easily view a list of labs and then for each lab
to see whether there are machines in them available for their use and
exactly where they are.

These machines each run start up and log-in tasks, assigned by
Group Policy from the domain, which report in periodically (every 20
seconds) to a server running mySQL.

The server manages this information and produces real-time
web-pages with images of the current status of a lab, charts of usage
and system uptime and some other reporting. Historical data is kept for
each reboot and user session in the database. Better reporting is
targeted in a future release.

The package was written using Java 1.5, Tomcat 5 and developed
using Netbeans4. We are in pilot phase, but have no real known issues
and it is ticking over well, so I thought it was time for a release.

I discourage the use of this project to track the status
machines tied to individuals or employees.

Feedback, comments, issues, bug reports and code additions as
always are welcome.

Best,
Chris Faigle
