To beat a dead horse slightly, the U.S. Dept. of Commerce released 4th 
quarter '99 (which, needless to say, includes Christmas) numbers for 
e-commerce - 5.3B. See:

That's for 4 months, so those must of been some pretty busy days ...  The
5.3B number represents .64% of total US retail sales for the quarter (821B).
