Paul,

Enough of politics, but I find this situation quite alarming.

In general, food prices are primarily going up because oil prices are
increasing.  Food production needs energy.

Biofuels are also pushing up food prices also.

However, rice is going up for other reasons.  The WSJ has the story:

There is nothing to be alarmed at, unless you live in a country like Hati.
