The quote "It can't happen here" (referring to the US)
is probably correct in the current environment, and also
a warning.  I would suggest that "It should not be allowed
to be able to happen here" is a position that more should
seriously consider (aka the Presidential Internet Kill Switch).

Probably true, in both directions.  The BBC notes that Egypt is, currently, one of 
the only countries with enough control over ISPs to be able to actually do this.

In respect of the US doing it, I would note that, apparently, the only net part of 
Egypt currently reachable is the stock exchange  :-)

(Any bets on when someone realizes that and hacks the exchange?)
