I have experience with ITA, ESM (not an IDS), NFR, and will be part of the
testing of NetProwler. I like ITA and have been using it for almost 2
years, NFR didn't work so well for the network setup here and we are testing
NetProwler.
It is best for you to check what each company says about its products and
then try to get a demo copy to test in your network, because each network is
different and while the setup at my company can handle ITA efficiently,
yours may not. As an aside, an acquaintance who has taught about IDSes said
that Dragon may be the better network IDS, but again you should demo if
possible or invite vendors to talk to you about what they can offer your
company.
Something else to consider is whether you want network based or host based
IDS, although having both if affordable is the better configuration.

Subject: IDS: RES: Info needed to compare Axent ITA and ISS RealSecure

Hi Mouritz,

This comparison ( http://www.nwc.com/1023/1023f1.html
<http://www.nwc.com/1023/1023f1.html> ) was made by network computing and is
a little old but I think you should take a look.

It compares ISS, NFR, NetProwler, NetRanger,Dragon,Network Ice,Centrax.

Hope this help

Hi

I'm new to this list as I've just been tasked the great job of looking into
IDS systems for our company.
I'm looking for info on both Axent and ISS products for IDS, can any one
help me please. As this is the two products that I need to evaluate, I don't
want to start a mail war with this question please, I just need some info as
too which of these two are going to work best.
We're looking at both network and host based IDS, and we operating in a
switched environment.

Rgds
Mouritz
