AW: 1080 Incidents

1080 is used for SOCKS 4 and 5 on Proxy Servers and Firewalls to allow
people inside (LAN) to connect to the outside (Internet).

SOCKS4 can't be really secured so you can use it from the outside
(Internet) to hide your real IP. SOCKS5 supports GSS based
authentication but many admin simply don't enable that feature.

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody knew why everyday my firewall gets hit
with "attacks" on port 1080 from computers
all over the world, mostly dialup accounts in other countries.
