Japan, South Korea to jointly build next generation information networks

 Japan and South Korea have decided to cooperate in building
multimedia and other next-generation information networks.  Japan's
Minister
of Posts and Telecommunications is scheduled to visit South Korea to
complete
a formal agreement.  Specifically, the two countries are to cooperate on
standards for communications formats, exchange government personnel, and
incorporate Korean firms in a Japanese pilot project.  With the bilateral
agreement, MPT hopes to make progress on the standardization of
communications formats in Asia.  Later it will work to settle on standards
