 The average internet user will not *ever*
 stand for directly or indirectly paying
 for SIX differant alleged root name server
 "confederations". There is an unacceptable,
 hidden price for admission to all of these
 competing fiefdoms. As indicated below...




1. AlterNIC Root Name Servers     - $2500 per year and passing arbitrary
                                    guidelines set by some businessmen.


2. eDNS Root Name Servers         - No fee except signing a document which
                                    makes one subject to item 1. 2. or 5.


3. Legacy InterNIC Root Servers   - $20,000 fee and $500,000 in the bank
                                    and passing the cooked guidelines of
                                    IAHC an arbitrary, technical trust.


4. New TRUE InterNIC Root Servers - Fee unknown but will probably follow
                                    item 3. very closely and certainly
                                    involves passing Internic/NSI/SAIC's
                                    arbitrary, corporate guidelines.


5. a) Root 64 Root Name Servers   - Fee unknown (moon cheese*?) but policy
   b) Root 128 Root Name Servers    will probably follow items 1. and 2.




 NONE of the above are acceptable.
 What we are witnessing is a shattering
 of a global resource where no-one will
 be able to find anyone on dozens of
 fragmentary alleged "roots".


 The RFC process must be reestablished
 and internationally sanctioned, comp-
 rehensive negotiations begun towards
 settling this clear and obvious mess.
