The current (Sept. 13-19) issue of The Economist has a very useful
34-page Survey of Telecommunications entitled "A Connected World"
written by Frances Cairncross.

Frances did a similar series of articles 2 years ago that she has
expanded into a new book, "The Death of Distance," which should be
available in book stores in a few weeks.

Death of Distance also has a web site (done by Frances and myself) at
http://www.deathofdistance.com

The site contains some extracts from the book (more added next week).
