try to travel without a government-approved ID card called a drivers'
license. If you don't drive, for a small fee, your local government (State
or Commonwealth) will issue one. If you are under driving age, they will
give you one free at your school. The government doesn't force you to carry
it (unless you are driving), but our modern commercial society does. So we
all already have government-approved ID's. Whose fault was that?

PS. I just got my new government-approved ID drivers license. The great
Commonwealth of Massachusetts (like Penna., we're NOT a state) is too cheap
to give out something made of plastic right away, so they issued me a
government-approved Xeroxed piece of paper (4x6") with my digital image on
it as a "temporary" government-approved ID. I used it to get on a plane
last week at SFO, but they looked at me like I printed it myself, and, in
fact, I could have done a better job on my new Epson Stylus. So much for
government-approved IDs. Eventually I am supposed to get something in
plastic. RS
