I received it when I quizzed Stockport about their policy. So far we have just received abuse so it makes a nice change. Stockport College has NOT banned ANY words around the College. The British media have yet again made mountains out of molehills which have spread to international parts. Stockport College is a multicultural College and has 15,000 students and 700 members of staff. The College prides itself in it's Equal Opportunities policy which ensures all employees and students can work in a harmonious environment. This list of words was used as a small part of a staff training programme to develop discussion into what some people might find offensive. The aim of the training to make people more aware and more sensitive to others around them. We have NO banned words in the College and each individual has the freedom to speak as they wish. So in answer to your question, the newspaper articles are rubbish. I may also add that the document which listed these words was an Internal Training Manual for staff. It is NOT part of the Equal Opportunities Policy. Because of the global coverage the College has issued a Press statement which I have attached to the bottom of this reply. If you have any further queries please feel free to contact me. Regards Kristina Harrison (Marketing)
