Webvan Group is in bankruptcy proceedings. Amazon.com is hurting. Online spinoffs like Kmart's BlueLight.com are returning to the roost. Don't make the mistake, however, of writing off the concept of online retailing. And don't think that traditional stores can, or should, return to business as usual. Technology has given retailers new tools for efficiency and customer support. Shopping habits have changed irrevocably. We're not returning to the old way of doing things, at least not willingly. What are some of the lessons from the first era of online retailing? Here are five.
