Dave,

You know that I repeatedly defended the H-1B program in the past when various parties attacked it on this list. I'm glad to see that jcp concurs that extensive H-1B hiring was "understandable" (I'd say "necessary") during the engineer shortage of 1996-2000.

I also agree with jcp that the Valley is now an employer's market. H-1B hiring should be needed far less often than in the past. Valley companies that are hiring H-1B candidates as often as they did in the boom times may well be using the program for the wrong reasons.
