X-Sender: To: Dave Farber <dave () farber net> Cc: James Sterbenz <jpgs () ieee org> Dave, 1. I assume you've seen that congress has shut down the IAO office at DARPA? 2. After being outraged at the IEEE policy to foreign scientists and sending a protest email to the IEEE president and making some phone calls, I've learned that things aren't quite as bad as the _Science_ article portrays. IEEE is actively trying to fight this. You might want to point IP readers to http://www.ieee.org/portal/cms_docs/newsinfo/Adlerletter.pdf which is an open letter from the IEEE president, Michael S. Adler. Its not nearly as strong as I'd like to see, but is a start at conveying to IEEE membership what is going on. I'm also told that the OFAC decision is due to IEEE *today*.
