Some questions for Massport / Logan officials:

-- Have you banned all use of cordless phones at the airport,  
including those owned by the airport?  Cordless phones use the same  
unlicensed spectrum as Wi-Fi does2.4 gigahertz (802.11b and g) and  
5.0 gigahertz (802.11 a) and are known sources of interference with  
Wi-Fi.

-- Have you banned all use of microwave ovens?  They leak RF at 2.4  
gigahertz.

-- Have you banned a traveller plugging a portable Wi-Fi device into  
an Ethernet port in one of the airline clubs?  Travellers  
increasingly carry these lil guys with 'em.

-- Have you considered that every laptop that connects to your  
network potentially could harm wireless communications -- that every  
client computer also sends and receives on the same channels?  A Wi- 
Fi card could go haywire, or someone maliciously could start a  
broadcast storm.  Do you have a backup plan for your claimed wireless  
security applications in the event of an accidental or malicious  
interruption of service?

-- Do you really think that at a time when most major U.S. airlines  
are bankrupt, and travellers avoid air travel due to security hassles  
and poor service, it's worth it for Logan to impose rules that hamper  
convenient use of the Internet?
