Gilmore; Lauren Weinstein Subject: Another court finds against the wrong person <http://www.circleid.com/posts/811611_david_ritz_court_spam> A court in North Dakota found David Ritz guilty of violating the North Dakota Computer Crime Law because he did a zone transfer, and other commands a normal user would not know. Mr. Ritz was gathering information for a spam complaint. The spammer retaliated by filing with the local prosecutor. The prosecutor and judge were ... (sorry, I can't think of a better way to put it) ignorant enough to let it go forward. Woe be anyone else who wants to file a spam complaint in the future. I would also caution anyone against visiting a web page, sending e- mail to, or otherwise using a computer to communicate with any person or device in North Dakota. Seriously. Lastly, Mr. Ritz is out of money, and his lawyers were working pro- bono (at least at the end). There is a link to his legal defense fund on the page. I urge everyone who thinks it is a bad idea to let such pathetically poor judgements stand to please donate, as I have done. -- TTFN, patrick ------------------------------------------- Archives: http://v2.listbox.com/member/archive/247/=now RSS Feed: http://v2.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/247/ Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
