I fail to see what problem we're solving? Under US supervision the net has
been relatively free. Some countries have have built firewalls, but the net
as a whole has been allowed to operate under relative freedom.

Can someone point to problems that giving control to non-US entities will
solve?

It seems to me like there's a percentage of technorati that want to weaken
the influence of the US globally. I fail to see how that extends freedom
around the world.

For IP if you wish:

It is certainly high time the US government let go of the last vestige of
control over the Internet. However, at the same time, it is never a good
idea to have any person or organization that does not have to ultimately
answer to a higher power for its actions.

In particular, when reading the comments about ICANN' s new "freedom" it
should be kept in mind that many of the organizations celebrating that
freedom are themselves dependent on ICANN for their existence.

We should all proceed with caution and a healthy dose of permanent
skepticism.
