I trust you’ve heard the big news emanating out of Cambridge this week:
academic administrator Lawrence Bacow will serve as Harvard’s 29th
president. The student and local press met Bacow’s selection approvingly,
despite some grousing about his race and gender. Indeed, Bacow likely will
be a competent president, but he’s not likely to have much real impact at
the university. I explain why in my latest column for WGBH News:
