State laptop with personal info stolen

http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695212997,00.html September 25, 2007 A laptop computer containing a spreadsheet with the Social Security numbers and other personal information of about 2,000 people was reported stolen Monday by the Utah Department of Workforce Services. The computer is password-protected, making it less likely an unauthorized person would be able to access its contents, according to a DWS press release. DWS is reviewing its policies with all employees to prevent a similar theft in the future. The department is individually contacting every person listed on the spreadsheet to let them know that his or her personal information may have been compromised. DWS promised to help any individuals who experience problems stemming from the theft. © 2007 Deseret News Publishing Company
