metasploit with backtrack3

hello all

    
i am going through user guide for
metasploit 3.2 which says - 
'In most cases, those features can be accessed by
running Metasploit inside of a Linux-based virtual machine (such as BackTrack
3 in VMWare).'  in section 2.3 Platform Caveats.
Does it mean i need to install vmware on host
OS winxp and backtrack3 as a guest OS and then
install metasploit on backtrack3.
