The framework isnt much fun to use on the device due to slow cpu speed and  
lack of ram. Once Ruby 1.9.1 is ported to Cydia, there should be a  
significant speed boost (along with the other changes from Yoann in  
3.3-dev), however it still wont be snappy. As far as firmware versions go,  
I know the last 2.x release was well supported by WinPwn/Cydia, I think  
3.x requires redsn0w (now ultrasn0w?), but still doesn't cover the iPhone  
3G S. Personally I am using my old 1G with 2.x and Cydia to do testing.
