ruby commands in metasploit

Rather than always asking here on how to do this, how to do that I know 
it's a better idea to learn the programming skills to make things happen 
in msf.

To begin with, I'm looking for a dictionary of ruby commands that are 
acceptable for use in writing metaspoit modules, etc.  Can all of ruby 
be used or only a subset and if so, where can I find the pertinent 
command list?
