It's not uncommon for companies to not charge good customers for minor incidental things, like fixing a typo; I think that most would reconsider that policy if they were hit with 8 million "minor" changes in a
day, which it seems is where we are. That has to cost something.I haven't heard a good reason why not to do this. If IANA can't use the money the IETF can.
