Depending on what you're after, there's a number of options.

There are very simple "turnkey" solutions like UptimeRobot and StatusCake that do periodic ping/traceroute from a 
single location.

I stray from host-your-own stuff for monitoring (i.e. UptimeKuma) because you either host it in your network or at a 
remote location (single origin).

Single origin pings may be good enough for public status page, but you'll be blind to issues that are regionally 
isolated. Hosting a public status page inside your network has the obvious caveat of potential unreliability in an 
outage.

I use a thing that polls globalping.io into Prometheus alongside my other monitoring data. I like that, and it's 
exposed some weird issues with certain upstreams. If you want a managed version of that, there is Betterstack, which is 
more featureful than UptimeRobot/StatusCake, and has the public status page bundled in.
