RE: Vendor websites after purchase..

Unfortunately, in my experience, it's pretty normal after a few years. Slowly the old stuff goes away on the acquired
or "losing" side of a merger company's systems and resources, as they're transitioned over to the parent org.

They'll initially provide working redirects, but over time either the entire originating vendor resources will just
disappear or fall into lack of maintenance/disuse and the acquiring/winning company will make some kinds of back-end
changes rendering old redirects inert/useless and you'll hit catchalls bouncing to the full department site.

In the end, you *might* end up with say, what happened with sun - where sun.com just bounces straight to oracle's
hardware site.

Pretty standard stuff, but in the short (couple year) period during the merging of resources/transition, well, that's
when you might get lucky.

Of course, there's also retired/cutoff content, like the big MSKB purge a few (5+?) years ago (luckily, archived by
others), and the transition from technet and MSDN library references to just "learn" rendering all those links invalid,
etc. But that falls into the 'upstream platform changing URL format' stuff indicated above.

I know this is a mighty tall ask, but could companies that are bought out keep redirects working beyond the "We're a
new name!" page?

Every search result for something on Junipers old site kindly redirects me to the new HPE networking webpage rather
than the actual indexed site. This is not a uniquely juniper, er, HPE issue. They all do this; this is just my current
pain.

Is it time to bring the clue-bat out of retirement?
