Hello everyone,
I am happy to announce that Nmap 2.54BETA28 is now available. The
biggest change is that I hope the "Unknown datalink type" Libpcap
error has been fixed. If you get taht error with BETA28, see below.
A few other things have been fixed/updated as well.
I just realized that it has been at least a year since the last
"stable" version (2.53) was released. Yikes! We've been doing betas
for a long time. So I am instituting a "feature feeze" in order to
promote stability. So please test this out and let me know if you
find any bugs! Once a stable release is made, we can go back to
adding cool new features :).
I have also begin PGP signing these release so that (if you check the
md5 hashes) you can be sure you have the actual release and not some
trojan. See below for the key.
Here are the CHANGELOG entries for this release:
-- I hope that I have fixed the Libpcap "Unknown datalink type"
problem that
many people reported. If you still receive this error, please send
me the following info:
1) Full output of Nmap including the command you typed
2) What OS/OS version you are using
3) What type of interface is the scan going through (PPP, ISDN,
ethernet, PPPoE, etc)
4) Whether you compiled from source or used the RPM version
-- Hopefully fixed Libpcap lex/yacc generated file problem that
plagued a few folks.
-- Various minor fixes/changes/updates
For those of you running Linux/x86 w/a recent version of rpm
(www.rpm.org), you can install/upgrade to the newest version of
nmap/nmapfe with these commands:
rpm -vhU (nmap url)
where (nmap url) is one (or both) of these:

http://download.insecure.org/nmap/dist/nmap-frontend-0.2.54BETA28-1.i386.rpm
source tarballs and source RPMs are always available at:
