Hi All!

This is the report for week 3.

Achievements:

  * Wrote a patch so that Zenmap's MemoryError is caught and handled
    better. The user sees a message that informs him/her that there is
    insufficient memory. The scan is kept running, however, and the user
    is informed of the same. This is considered to be the best way to
    handle the MemoryError until a fix to the underlying problem is
    done. This patch is still waiting for comments.
  * Rewrote code in zenmap/zenmapCore/NmapParser.py to speed up opening
    of scans. Large scans open in seconds instead of hours now.
    (committed as revision 32983). A follow up patch increased the speed
    even further. (committed as revision 32984)
  * Updated the included libpcap to 1.5.3 (committed as revision 32966).
    Set some automatically generated libpcap files to be ignored by SVN
    (committed as revision 32967).
  * Discussed (on the dev list) as to how the --exclude-ports option
    must behave. Have come up with a working plan on how to implement it.
  * Fixed a bug in Zenmap that caused it to crash when clicking on
    certain hosts (committed as revision 32939)
  * Modified configure.ac so that the changes in configure script are
    not overwritten when anyone were to run autoconf (committed as
    revision 32965)


Priorities:

  * Work on adding a --exclude-ports option to Nmap
  * Work on a file-based paging system for displaying output in Zenmap
    (to reduce its memory footprint)
  * Analyze how to combine parallel timed-out hops into one node in the
    topology view in Zenmap
