1. After the first goal ie "make Nmap as easy to install" is achieved, then
should I focus on porting GUI first or try to make it "as powerful as

2. Can we have a little discussion on "as powerful as possible" ie does a
rubric exists to measure this, which can help me in defining the goals and
scope in more refined manner ?

Hello,

As you can see, these goals are not specific and I assume that you are
expected to carry out a small research on your own on how much can be
achieved in the 15 weeks. The way I understand your question, you are
asking whether you should focus on being able to distribute your project
or on its functionality. In my opinion, you should do have the aim of
ending up with a complete project, not necessarily as big as Zenmap.
This means that it should be easy to install, have documentation and
actually be usable. When the project is easy to maintain, it might be
somebody else's task to enhance it with even more functionality.

In other words, I would interpret "The goal is to make Nmap as easy to
install (...) and as powerful (...) as possible." as "try do to do both
as well as possible within the GSoC".

3.Does one need to know about JNI also to accomplish the task ?

I don't think so. Nmap's interface is based on calling the binary from
the command line and parsing its XML output, so I would assume that
Android has some kind of system() equivalent (for example, see here:
http://stackoverflow.com/q/20932102/1091116)

4. May I have some more pointers on Zenmap GUI ( I am little skeptical
about it since its parent project UmitProject has been retired ) ?

What kind of pointers would you like? By the way, Zenmap is far from
being "retired" if that's what you suggest ;)

Cheers,
