Last nmap version that runs on Windows XP is 6.47.
Versions 6.49 beta 1 and later doesn't.

Thanks for the report. My proposal is that we officially support Nmap
on Windows 7 and newer, as well as Windows Server 2008 and newer. I worry
that trying to support obsolete versions of Windows may prevent us from
taking advantage of newer platform features and such, as well as causing us
to spend time that might be better spent trying to improve support on newer
platforms such as the upcoming Windows 10.

But that doesn't mean leaving XP users in the lurch. They still have many
options including:

* Using Nmap 6.47
* Compiling Nmap themselves with the options to support XP
* Or upgrading to a version of Windows supported by Nmap (and Microsoft)

I've updated the Secwiki page on using Nmap on old Windows releases:
https://secwiki.org/w/Nmap/Old_Windows_Releases

There has been some talk on this thread on how to compile the latest Nmap
release to support XP. It would be great if someone who tests that can
write up the exact instructions and send them to this list and/or add them
to the Secwiki page. That way anyone who really wants to run the latest
Nmap on XP has a good way to do it. It's possible that we could even build
and distribute an official XP installer for the next big stable version of
Nmap if there is enough demand.

Cheers,
Fyodor
