Newcomer to the community

My name is Satyaki and I'm a newcomer to the Nmap community. I want to
contribute to this project. I have been an active participator in
programming contests like ACM-ICPC and on online judges over the last two
years (am comfortable in C++).

I was going through the GSoC ideas of 2015 and a particular one caught my
eye. The Performance/Optimization specialist which requires C++ and data
structure and algorithm skills.

I am new to open source development. Can someone please give me some
pointers as to how I can get started?
