It would be funny if someone successfully impersonated the FBI in order to coerce them into putting said backdoor into 
the product in the name of national security.
Bruce Schneier wrote about some NSA involvement in developing one of the crypto algorithm that was a finalist in one of

This story doesn't make sense to me.

Someone decides to come forward with some information because some
contract ran out? If it was bothering them that much, couldn't they
have just leaked this information somewhere on the internet? Some
message like check out the source code in such and such file on line
such and such... ?

I would like confirmation that there actually is a backdoor before I
will believe this story.

I dunno - it seems like we have only have a story here.
